Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q.How often should I be blogging?

A.I recommend at least once a week. Blog at the same time on the same day each week. Use your scheduling tool in Wordpress rather than just hitting publish. Google will learn when you post and come back to crawl your site at that regular time each week.

  • Q.How long does it take for my blog posts to show up?

A.As soon as Google crawls your site, which can take a few days, your blog post should start to come up in Google Searches. This usually takes a few days. Remember that we will be optimising each blog post for specific, location based long tail keywords. The more of those types of posts you have the better.

  • Q.What are short tail vs long tail keywords?

A.Short tail keywords are harder to come up for. An example would be "Wedding Photographer. A log tail keyword is easier to come up for as it is more specific and usually includes a location, for example "Wedding Photographer Surrey". An even better way to come up is to get even more specific and we can chat about this over Skype during your Intensive.

  • Q.Do I need a website and a blog?

A.I believe, and have done so for a few years now that this is not the best way to do it. You are essentially having to double your SEO efforts. By having a website and blog in one (a blogsite) – these days to be honest most people have a Wordpress website that has the blog integrated – your SEO work done on your blog drives traffic to your branded site which is all in one place.

  • Q.What plug-ins do I need?

A.Don't worry I will take care of this for you. If you already have an SEO plug in installed then I can continue using that one. If you do not have an SEO plug in installed then I will do that for you and work with that. I can walk you through how to use it yourself going forward once the SEO Intensive is complete.

  • Q.Which blog platform should I be using?

A.I highly recommend Wordpress! It is widely recognised as being the best for SEO and coming up tops in Google searches right out of the box. You can also do some extra work to super charge your SEO from within Wordpress itself. My own blogsite is all Wordpress and these days you can make them look like anything you wish!

  • Q.Are keywords still important?

A.Yes, but not in the old way of doing it. Inserting a bunch of keywords that are very broad and cover a range of possible searches does you no good. Coming up with unique and very specific keywords is far better. Knowing where to place them in your pages and blog posts is crucial. It is not as easy as just copy and pasting them into the meta keywords box.

  • Q.What is a Google Site Map?

A.A sitemap is a file where you can list the web pages of your site to tell Google and other search engines about the organization of your site content. Search engine web crawlers like Googlebot read this file to more intelligently crawl your site. I will install one for you.
