Around the world hotels and tourism boards are realising that Social Media Influencers hold the key to a fresh, exciting way to reach their ideal customers that trumps traditional advertising.
Using an online personality who has a loyal following is gold for the tourism industry. Images are posted online, liked, shared and people start talking – traditional press pics up on it and… bingo your resort’s everywhere!
Knowing your target market is key in deciding who you would invite to cover your hotel and the experience of the location. No longer is traveling the world, reviewing exotic locations reserved for magazine journalists.
I’ll be highlighting my favourite Social Media Influencers on my blog, first up is Tiffany Dowd who’s blog is Tiffany Travels.
I started following Tiffany when I lived in The Turks & Caicos Islands where she visits often and we’ve connected via Twitter and Instagram. Tiffany is often featured as a luxury travel expert across media channels. She has a large, active, Social Media following with 57.6K on Twitter, 19.9K on Instagram and 138K likes on Facebook!
The key here is an “active following”. At a glance you can see that she has a loyal following who aspire to follow in her travel footsteps and who look to her for advice on where to go, stay and what to do when they get there.
Recently, The Brando, invited Tiffany to stay at their incredible resort. Unashamedly Tiffany promotes travel for the “Top 1%” so it is crystal clear who her audience is – perfect for a luxury resort like The Brando!
The Brando is a unique luxury resort on French Polynesia’s breathtakingly beautiful private island of Tetiaroa. With access to the island by private plane, the resort features 35 villas on white-sand beaches frequented by sea turtles, manta rays and exotic birds. The resort was designed to reflect Polynesian lifestyles and culture.
Tiffany used Instagram as her main social media platform and promoted the images she took from there onto Twitter and Facebook too. Instagram’s the perfect platform for the travel industry because it’s so visual.
It’s the fastest growing platform in the world and is now bigger than Twitter. Posts receive 50% more interaction on Instagram vs Twitter. There’s a reason why Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion in cash and stock in April 2012!
• Make sure you have easy, visible links from your website to your social media
• Offer free Wifi throughout the public areas of the resort right down to the beach
• Come up with a unique #Hashtag for your resort and encourage people to use it
• Example #BeautifulByNature (Turks & Caicos Islands)
• Hire a social media manager to keep your own social media top notch
